Got to be in it to win it – Presented by Mark K. Lund, Utah Financial Advisor

Financial Advisor UtahBelow is Morningstar’s daily Market Barometer from just after close on June 3rd. It was a wild ride straight UP!!!

Markets have been weird this year. The news and media – even weirder. If you listen to the news, not much would indicate that we were about to see an awesome positive spike.

The lesson here is that you never know when these things are going to happen. “You have to be in it to win it.” When markets spike, they often do so at the time you least expect and do so in a very short window. If you aren’t already there, you miss it entirely.

What we can say with relative certainty is that among those that made changes, got out of the market or reduced their exposure to equities, almost none of them were sitting around last Wednesday thinking, “I best get back in the market tomorrow. Friday is sure to be a monster day.”

Of course, one great day in U.S. stocks doesn’t give us any unique insight into market prices in the near future. But days like this serve as a great reminder that disciplined investing requires sticking to your strategy over the long haul so you don’t miss out.

If you ever have any questions about your investments or retirement plans, please feel free to give me a call at 801-545-0696.
